Impact - action by young people
Local young talents dazzled an audience of over a hundred at the 'Elmbridge Has Talent' final at Reeds School, on Saturday 24 October 2009. This exciting evening was the culmination of weeks of intense preparation for young artists who spent countless hours perfecting their act to impress the public and panel of judges. The evening was an amazing showcase of all the talents discovered by impact, Elmbridge Youth Forum, who invited schools and youth organisations across the borough to submit acts for 'Elmbridge Has Talent' and supported their efforts until the final.
Reeds School's theatre hall, newly refurbished thanks to a £10,000 given by impact as part of Youth Capital Fund, was the perfect venue to host young performers from Claremont Fan Court School, Rydens School and Esher High School who battled it out in hope of winning the top prize £1,000 for their school council.
Nine sensational acts performed in front of the Mayor and Mayoress of Elmbridge, as well as the three judges including the Arts Development Officer at Elmbridge Borough Council, celebrity Damien Hunt from Radio Jackie and Liddy Jones representing the young people. With outstanding performances varying from dance solos to rock guitar, dramatic monologues and singing duets, the judges had a tough job deciding the three finalists.
Hannah Mughal, impact chair, was delighted to announce that Matt Fry, Rydens School, won with his version of 'Consider Yourself' from the hit musical Oliver. All performers were an asset to their school and families and no one could have predicted the winner.
impact were extremely proud to support the Mayor's Appeal Newlife Foundation and raised over £600 through ticket sales and donations.
Councillor Jan Fuller, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural Services and Youth Champion said "The evening showed the enthusiasm and high standard of talent in our Borough. impact have been working extremely hard over the last three years to fund and support young people. Elmbridge Has Talent is just one of many fantastic local opportunities for young people".
